Job Description

We are seeking a Research Assistant with proven experience in culture-based and molecular-based techniques applied to the testing of food and veterinary samples (e.g. environmental, animal, and food samples). The candidate will join our new team at the Department of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Public Health and Meat Hygiene group”). The position could be available for up to two years. This position is open for applicants who are currently based in the United Arab Emirates (based in or re-locating to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi).

The incumbent Research Assistant will contribute significantly to our dynamic research that focuses on the screening and characterization of foodborne zoonoses. We are seeking a team-mate with good interpersonal skills and research experience in both cultures- and molecular-based microbiological research. Proven experience in DNA extraction and knowledge of good PCR bench work practices are crucial. Experience in sequence-based techniques (e.g. illumine platforms) is an advantage. Opportunities exist to work together with other researchers; this Research Assistant will be working on a collaborative research project in partnership with the National University of Singapore and the UAEU College of Medicine and Health Sciences

Minimum Qualification

The Research Assistant is required to have postgraduate training (“at least” MSc degree) in a relevant field (veterinary/medical microbiology, biotechnology, and molecular biology). Applicants should have a proven experience in molecular analyses using PCR, and if possible some experience with whole-genome sequencing library preparation.

Preferred Qualification

MSc/Ph.D. within a related research topic + work experience in a molecular laboratory setting. Please note that this position is open for applicants who are currently based in the United Arab Emirates.
